She walked into the cold, empty room. She knew this was the time, it could no longer be put aside. “Hikari, Yami, Megumi, I need to speak with you.”
Hikari was the first to appear. She wore a simple white hooded robe. She smiled as she pulled the hood down, revealing her gentle face. “Good evening,” she said.
Next was Yami, she wore a black hooded robe similar to Hikari’s. Yami did not pull her hood down; instead she peered through the shadows. “What is it now,” was her response.
Lastly, Megumi appeared in a draped, white gown. The dress of a certain moon princess the Hostess was so fond of. Megumi appeared disgruntled, “Why am I wearing this?”
The Hostess greeted everyone. She had a look of pain as she looked at her guests. She had known them for years. They were friends, family, a part of her heart, a part of her soul. “Yami, Hikari, could you excuse us for a bit. I need to talk to Megumi privately, before I speak to everyone.” Yami was reluctant to go, but Hikari insisted. As soon as they appeared, they had disappeared.
“What is it? And again, why am I in this dress?” Megumi questioned.
“We’ve known each other for a while now, haven’t we?” asked the Hostess.
“Indeed we have. Seems like forever almost.”
“You’ve grown, I’ve grown. We’ve each had our own adventures.” She walked closer to Megumi. The Hostess griped something in her hand, hidden from view. Even so, Megumi was more concerned with the dress.
“What is this all about?” Megumi was trying to get comfortable in the form fitting dress.
The master of ceremonies was now a breath away from Megumi. She was about to say another word, but lost the energy to do it. She took a step towards Megumi. Silence fell between the two.
Megumi’s eyes widened. Shock and disbelief washed over her face. She spoke awkwardly, “Wh-wh-what…why…!”
The hostess closed her eyes and leaned slightly forward. Megumi gave out a gasp. She coughed and let out a spew of blood. “HIKARI! YAMI! HELP!” She dug the dagger deeper into Megumi and finally pulled away slowly, holding a jeweled dagger. The Hostess stepped away. Megumi fell nearly limp onto the stone floor. Hikari and Yami appeared next to Megumi.
Hikari gave out a shriek and knelt beside Megumi. She held her close. Megumi’s blood stained Hikari’s robe, the dress and the hands of the Hostess. “Why!?” Hikari screamed.
Yami was eerily calm. She looked at the Hostess and then back at Megumi. She felt a pain in her heart. Yami placed a hand on her chest, held it there. “Yami, do something!” Hikari was nearly hysterical. Yami pulled her away; her hand was stained with blood. Yami was bleeding.
The Hostess kept her eyes away from the scene.
“I knew…” Yami whispered.
“What!” Hikari cried.
“I had a feeling…”
Hikari held Megumi tighter. “And you didn’t tell me!”
“It was going to happen either way! There was no stopping this!” Yami was crying. She knelt next to Megumi and Hikari.
Hikari could not believe her eyes. “Yami…” Hikari touched Yami’s wet cheek. Hikari glanced toward the Hostess. “Why! Tell me why!”
The Hostess was silent. Silent and still holding the bloody dagger.
Megumi was clinging to life. Her voice was a mere child’s whisper. “…doshite…?”
Yami felt a pain in her heart. This pain was immense. She fell to her knees. She let out a cry of pain. “Ahhh..AhhhHHHHH!!!” Yami’s body lit up with a vast aura. The aura seemed to implode, leaving behind a cluster of black feathers and the faint echo of Yami’s scream.
“YAMI!” Hikari screamed as she reached out toward her enemy, friend, and sister. Hikari felt the same pain in her heart. She looked down. She too was bleeding. She knew it was her turn was coming. “Tell me why before I go.” She held Megumi tighter. This was the last time she was ever going to serve her master.
“I have my reasons.” The Hostess whispered.
Hikari felt defeated. She could no longer fight it. “Ahhh…!” Just like Yami, her body released a vast aura. “AHHHHHH!!” The aura imploded, leaving a cluster of white feathers, and the echo of Hikari’s scream.
Megumi was fighting hard to stay alive. Tears flooded her eyes as she swallowed hard. “Before I die, TELL ME!! PLEASE!”
The Hostess considered it for a moment. She spoke with a broken voice, “you…you are the reason for all my problems! It’s because you…I have to stop…stop this false reality…”
“K-k-killing me won’t…won’t solve…I will always…always be a part…”
“Shut-up…!”
“Who….who will help…write the stories…! What will he…!”
“SHUT-UP AND DIE!”
Megumi fell silent. She closed her eyes and was gone. The Hostess walked over to the body. Tears were flowing like waterfalls. She kept telling herself, it had to be done. This was the only way out. No more fantasy game, no more false realities. She had to live in what was the real reality. Megumi should have never existed beyond ink and paper. This had to be done. She dropped the jeweled dagger and walked away from her fantasy world and into her harsh reality.
This is something dug up from my past. I was having a crisis and this is what came out about it. This is part one of four.

Recent events brought this back to light. So now I want to share it with all of you.

This was first written...in...2005?
I still consider it one of my best works.

Enjoy!

(yes, its still a rather rough cut)

Rather haunting in that the story, at least from my perspective claws away at the fourth wall and makes me wonder less about the characters but about the author ~_~

Are you ok Meg?

(though after reading it, I want to read the other 3 parts)
