First of all, I don’t draw O.O So this isn’t an artist influence map, but a writer’s. Yeah, I know not at cool as the other maps out there. I’ve wanted to do this for a while since this is one of the few DA meme thingers I can do. With further ado, here we go!
CLAMP – Ok, I will admit I haven’t read or seen everything that CLAMP has done. But I have admired their artwork and stories for years. It was actually Magic Knights Rayearth that got me writing in the 6th grade. It was story about a girl transported to another world to save it. The first few pages scream MKR, but as I progressed it became a typical shojo story.
Masakazu Katsura – Mainly talking about Video Girl Ai, my favorite manga series. Not only do I admire they way he draws his girls, but the emotion and story behind it all. Yeah its teen romance drama, but that’s what I love about it. I love the emotion he wrote into it. Not to mention the way he weaves it into what, 13 vols and then gives us a little extra with vols 14 and 15. I have it over a million times and I still get excited to see what happens next. Seriously, GO READ IT.
Studio Ghilbi – Yeah, if you’re as much as an otaku as me, then there’s no need to explain this one. The stories, the characters, just timeless and memorable. That is something I want to achieve. I saw Whispers of the Heart in college and it gave me a push start writing again.
Square – I love video games. And Square Enix, (Square, Squaresoft) has been a huge part of my influences. The multitude of characters and worlds! And yes, I did dabble in some fanfic in my early years.
K.A. Applegate – (A pen name) I followed the Animorphs series from 5th grade to about sometime in High School. I continued to collect the books, but never got a chance to sit and read them. (Yeah yeah, I know its an easy read, but I want to go back and re-read). I list her here because she got me to read! And that’s what I want out of my writing, I want people to read it!
Bruce Coville – Author of the Unicorn Chronicles. I started that series in middle school and the final book was finally released June 2010. Yeah, that is a long time to wait for a book.
Music
Wings – I love wings and feathers. I love to write about wings and flight. Escaflowne is what kicked start that fascination with wing beings.
Sailor Moon – This was my gateway anime.
Megumi/Ryo – Ok, so an influence is a creation? Yeah, without those two I would not be writing. These two were a creation of a friend and I. (…bad grammar is bad?) And whenever I write about these two, my best writing comes out. (Art by Zil-Zeki)
Texas State University – College years. People I met, especially a certain someone... Things I did and saw. Nuff said.
Nick Hornby’s A Long Way Down – I picked it up in the bargain bin and it was an enjoyable read. I post is here because it was made me think I could possibly pull off a four person perspective story. Applegate did that from time to time in the MegaMorphs spin offs, but she was writing a book series with multiple perspectives. This is was a stand alone novel.
Masami Tsuda – Much like Kastsura, she wrote about teen love in Kare Kano. She also kept a HUGE cast of character through about…how many volumes was it?? Characters and emotions.
YAY…how many of you actually read this?
